OFFICIAL STATEMENT

WE ARE OPEN!!

At Social Distance Charters, we are fully committed to bringing to each and every one of our guests the best experience possible. The safety and wellbeing of our clients, our staff members and our communities are of paramount importance to us and will continue to be our priority moving forward.

In alignment with travel restrictions globally and following the recommendations made in efforts to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus COVID-19, we are now operative with restrictions: at the moment only 30% of full capacity allowed on our vessels.

The world needs us and it makes us very happy to know that we are each doing our bit by staying home for now. May these challenging times be an opportunity to reconnect with ourselves, with our loved ones, and with the majesty of nature – even if at distance.

Stay safe and whenever you are ready to travel, we look forward to welcoming you!

SAFETY PROTOCOL:

Social Distance Charters is certified by SECTUR (Secretaria de Salud) as a company that complies with the standards to obtain the “PUNTO LIMPIO” (Clean Point) recognition.

Among other precautions we will focus on:

  • Hygiene: An increased focus on disinfection and sanitation, including the addition of hand-washing stations and hand sanitizers in key areas.
  • Social distancing: we will keep our groups very small (maximum of 4 people) if dealing with mixed groups.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I do to support Social Distance Charters?

If you’d like to support our business, please consider booking a trip or buy a gift card for later use! We made it very EASY now and you can reserve your spot for one of our tours with a deposit pf 50% of the value of the tour. We also advise you to add-on the “Social Distance Charters Travel Insurance” which gives you peace of mind and the tour can be canceled at any point.

And you may have already heard this mantra being repeated by travel experts: rescheduling your trip instead of canceling is a great way to support travel operators and small businesses during this unprecedented situation. It also supports the incredible, hardworking guides across the world, who, like us, rely on responsible tourism to support their families. And of course, it gives your family something to look forward to during these troubling times.

Can I buy out the whole boat for my group for a private trip?

Yes! That is a great way to play it safe. In fact, we are also currently offering a 10% discount for Private Tours in Cabo San Lucas: please get in touch with us directly to collect the offer.

What cleaning measures are you taking on your vessels?

Our crew has stepped up the already thorough cleaning measures taken after each trip. Our office, the deck, and outer surfaces of the boat are scrubbed daily. Pole handles, rails, and inside surfaces are further disinfected with appropriate cleaners.  Disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer is available onboard for use during the trip.  Office workers will be taking extra care to sanitize any commonly touched surfaces. Social Distance Charters is also in the process of becoming certified by the SECTUR (Secretaria del Turismo), the Mexican governmental department of tourism, as Punto Limpio (Clean Point).

Do you have any special precautions for divers and snorkelers?

Our dive center is doing its part to ensure everyone’s safety against COVID-19:

  • Divers will be encouraged to use their own equipment. We will provide the equipment in case you do not have your own.

  • All dive equipment will be disinfected after use and stored appropriately following the DAN and EPA protocols. Divers must only touch their own equipment to avoid cross-contamination. When fitting equipment members of staff will frequently sanitize their hands.

  • Bringing a personal mouthpiece for the regulator is also highly encouraged. We will have mouthpieces for sale in case you prefer a new one.

  • Divers must set up their own SCUBA gear in a predetermined “diver zone”.   A mask defogger solution will provide to clean the mask

  • The mask is mandatory in the boat as well as the safety distance.

I am coughing or sneezing, but it is just allergies. Can I still go on your tour?

For the comfort of all of our passengers in these uncertain times, we ask that if you are coughing for any reason (more than just a normal cough to clear your throat) that you DO NOT GO ON TOURS.  Even if it is allergies, it makes everyone onboard very uncomfortable in present circumstances.  You might try booking for later in the season when the pollen is not so prevalent.

Are you going to take my temperature?

Likely, yes.  As always, our largest concern is that we keep our passengers, captains, and crew as safe as possible.  We recommend that you take your own temperature daily leading up to the trip to make sure you aren’t running a fever.  Anyone with a temperature over 100.4 deg. F or 38 deg. C. will not be allowed to board the boat.

How many people will be on your trips?

The number of people allowed on our trips will likely vary with each boat and each trip type. We do anticipate increasing our capacity if possible as the summer goes on and restrictions continue to relax, as long as it seems safe to do so.

Will I have to wear a mask?

When visiting Social Distance Charters Office it is recommendable.  If the tour includes transportation by car it will be mandatory. When out on the boat we will leave this for you to decide.

This all sounds like a lot of work just to go on a tour, is this trip still going to be any fun?

Yes!  What doesn’t sound better right now than getting out in the fresh air, stay in the sun and jump in the Ocean?  We just want to get out there and do what we love, we think you’ll have a great time, even if we all have to make some adjustments to the way we would normally do things.  Also consider that you are directly contributing to keeping our crew working during this difficult time, so we can still be here for you when things start to get back to normal.  Thanks for your continued support!

Is Cabo safe to travel?

The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has given Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, its stamp of approval for hygiene and sanitary measures the popular tourist destination has adopted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the municipality, home to San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, remains under coronavirus restrictions. Beaches, ports, hotels, restaurants and all non-essential businesses remain closed.

The region is the second destination in Mexico to receive the WTTC’s Safe Travels stamp, which is designed to boost travelers’ confidence in hotels, restaurants, airports and recreational facilities.
